Spring Riding

Well it's late Feb. and March is just around the corner, this weekend as a matter of fact.
It's been a busy winter on the bike and I've logged close to 1000 mile since Thanksgiving. Most of those miles have been on the fixed gear, and has been a lot of fun. I was worried at first about riding the fixie in the snow and ice, but once I got out there and started trying different routes it was just the setup for this type of weather.
I built up a Motobecane Outcast29 and configured it with the new WTB drop bars, Avid V brakes, Cane Creek V levers, Schwalbe Little Albert tires on Salsa Degado wheels laced to Surley hubs. My gearing was setup a little steep 36x14 which gives a 74.5 gear inch. I wanted to be able to hang on the road but also ride off-road when needed. The fork is a On-One Steel 29er fork and preforms well for what I've been riding. To round it out I'm running Race Face cranks/BB and shimano clipless platform pedals.
It's been a fun winter getting those first tracks in the snow, then meeting up with my friends at the coffee shop to see the look on they're face when they see me on the bike.
I've had the Couch road bike out a couple of Sundays for some long rides as we've had some better days. Though I did wake to a fresh coat of snow a couple of days ago and got the fixie out and put those tracks down.
